Introducing "Jerome's Legacy," a handcrafted soap inspired by the historic charm of Jerome, AZ—once hailed as the Wickedest Town in the West.
Founded in 1876, Jerome flourished as Arizona's fourth-largest city, reaching a peak population of 15,000 in the 1920s. The Great Depression and shifts in mining ownership, notably to Phelps Dodge, impacted the town's fortunes.
During World War II, Jerome's copper production surged, only to decline post-war. Struggling with a solely copper-dependent economy, Phelps Dodge Mine closed in 1953, leaving behind a population of 50 to 100 residents who transformed Jerome into a celebrated ghost town. In 1967, the town earned National Historic District status.
Today, Jerome thrives as a vibrant tourist and artistic community, boasting a population of around 450. Once the site of the largest copper mine in Arizona, producing a remarkable 3 million pounds monthly, the town now echoes with the creative pursuits of artists and musicians.
Jerome's lively past, filled with miners, bootleggers, and gamblers, has evolved into a captivating present, drawing visitors to explore its historic streets and support local artisans.
